Overview:
Brutal warrior Rance's mind is filled to the brim with thoughts of fucking girls. And wherever he goes, screams of beautiful women resound.
He's been traveling around randomly with the mage girl he recently bought, Sill, but now he has a different purpose in mind. His target this time... Or rather, his destination, is the Kingdom of Leazas, which is known to be the most wealthy nation in the world. The daughter of a noble family, Hikari, who attended Paris Academy there, has gone missing, and he's taken up a quest to find her.
Rance sets off to enjoy the beauties of Leazas!
...And while he's there, he'll find Hikari and enjoy her too, of course.
This is a remake of the original Rance title which came out 24 years prior. It uses an old-style chip-based battle system and has new artwork and music. The script has also been heavily modified.

The legendary entry to a legendary series. It's a rather short game, but quite good. If you love the Rance series, there's no reason to skip this one, as it sets the pace for the whole adventure.

Gotta say, however, that I'm not a fan of the localization done to the tittle. The original tittle is called Rance 01: Hikari o Motomete, which carries a double meaning in japanese that was totally lost with this "quest" localization. A direct translantion would be "The search for Hikari", Hikari being written as "The light" in japanese, gives double meaning to the tittle, as in "Rance 01: Searching for the light". A proper hidden meaning, considering Rance's background story pre-games and what he had been up to until now.

Up until Rance 5d Hitoribochi no Onna no Ko, all Rance tittles have a bit of a double meaning to their name.
