You can now get verified on forum.

The way it's gonna work is that you can send me a PM with a verification picture. The picture has to contain you and forum name on piece of paper or on your body and your username or my username instead of the website name, if you prefer that.

Here's the deal. Patriotism is a load of shit. How can you be proud to be an American? Think about it. If You were born here you got it by default. It's not something you achieved. You wouldn't say I'm proud I have blue eyes or I'm proud I have ten fingers. You can say I'm glad I'm american. You can say I'm glad I wasn't born in Kosovo! You can't say I'm proud you didn't earn it you didn't work hard it's not an achievement. Also patriotism can be a bad thing sometimes it can inspire people to think America is better than other countries and Americans are better than people from other counties. So we can say people in Mexico are starving but who cares they suck or let's invade Iraq because they suck anyway. One country should never be better than another when it comes to basic human rights. And finally it has no bearing in the natural world and no effect in the natural order. Borders are made up and not by the so called patriots so why the fuck should we be proud of some made up guidelines from a not so decadent past? Now I'm glad I'm American and I stand by my neighbors but I don't give a rats ass about a piece of fabric no matter how pretty it is.

So what you're saying is that a person shouldn't say they are proud to be gay since they were born that way. I guess they'll have to cancel those parades now.

    Huh.
Pride in country is a fundamental need for all countries.
I mean, if you start thinking your country isn't any better than the other countries, then you end up with ............... France.
    Enough funny.

Shooter is proud to be an American.
Shooter believes America on the whole, is the best country in the world.
Shooter still gets a tear in his eye when the National Anthem is played.
Shooter still proudly says the pledge at games.
Shooter knows America has problems. We still discriminate. We have a corrupt administration and deep levels of fraud and abuse in government at all levels. No matter what, come November we're going to make a bad, very bad, choice for President.
But, that's MY country, and anybody who wants to dismantle my country better bring their damn lunch, some friends, and big damn guns.

    1. Heywood123
Funny that's the first time I've heard you say your American. usually you say your an alien

You have to stand with your neighbors, your community, your state and your country. If you do not, who in the fuck wants to know you??? You aren't worth nothing. Going back to the beginning of humans, you must stand with your tribe. There are no exceptions.

I just sent the 49er's a politely worded request that they fire him, and allow him to leave this place that he finds so bad. If you feel as I do, please do the same.

Glen Doherty ........................ ..................... ........................................................Stephan Ross

Hey Colin Kaepernick, I’d like to introduce you to a few men.

Meet Sgt. William Carney of the 54th Massachusetts Colored Infantry who was among the brave men attacking Fort Wagner in South Carolina during the Civil War. Carney saw the color bearer ahead of him struck down by Confederate bullets. Already injured, Carney would not let the flag fall to the ground, and he charged forward directly into enemy fire to retrieve it.

The enemy shot him up relentlessly, but Carney got to the red, white and blue and carried it high, all the way back to his regiment.

Carney, who was injured and by all rights should have been dead, cried, “Boys, I only did my duty. The flag never touched the ground.”

Carney became the first black Medal of Honor recipient.

49ers quarterback Kaepernick, who is paid nearly $20 million a year for his ability to play a game, of course recently refused to stand for the American flag. Because of the racism he says it symbolizes. Yesterday, he doubled down, saying he’ll keep doing it, insisting he “did what’s right” when he disrespected the American flag.

(M4M note: This part brought a tear to my eye)
Meet Stephan Ross. Ross was a 14-year-old Jewish boy from Poland. He and his brother had lost everyone and everything by the time American soldiers arrived to free him from Dachau.

A soldier hugged Ross and gave him his rations. The young boy broke down and cried. The American gave him a cloth to wipe his tears. It was a small American flag. It was Stephan’s only possession and he would treasure it forever.

In 2012, Ross, by then an accomplished psychologist in Boston, managed to meet the children and grandchildren of the man, the late Steve Sattler, who had shown him such kindness, and Ross presented them with the very thing that signaled love and hope to him, an American flag. Ross went on to spearhead the building of the New England Holocaust Museum.

Meet Glen Doherty, a hero who sacrificed his own life to save others during the terrorist attack in Benghazi. After Doherty’s death his friends planted a little American flag in the sand on a beach in California. They poured his ashes into the sea, yelling, “I love you, Glen.” In his hometown of Winchester, the funeral procession route was lined with grateful townspeople holding flags, out of the schools poured students to pay respects to the man, holding high Old Glory.

At the end of the funeral a U.S. Navy sailor presented Doherty’s heartbroken mother with the folded flag.

That flag that you refuse to honor is the strongest symbol for good in the history of Earth, Colin. Men like William, Stephan and Glen — who have endured more than you ever will — have made it so.

You are not worthy of it.

My ex father-in-law was part of the occupation Army at Dachau under Patton...the things he saw still makes him weep 70 years later. You can be sure that the survivors were glad to see American flags.

My Husband's "Dad" (a much more powerful term than father), a man who I was blessed to spend time around, a truly great man, became enraged when my Husband at 14 applied for a Social Security card. His reason was, the more obscure you are, the less known and so on by the government, the more free you remain. In kind he suggested that my Husband not seek fortune, and if he found it to live modestly to keep it hidden, and finally, to never, ever seek or accept fame.

Simply be a good man, trusted in the community, and humbly and discreetly serve others. Sounds rather anti-establishment huh? Well, he was a corporate executive, lived his live by the rule of law, and by the book according to social standards. Lived modestly tucking away much of what he earned, served in Korea, paid his taxes and so on.

The reason he did, seeming to speak and live hypocritically was that he was also a firm believer in that "to change the system, you must be a part of the system." In other words, if you live outside the system, so it doesn't affect you, then you have no right, nor will that right be recognized by others to change it.

The system in this case are the social standards and protocols set down by the people, to collectively keep America strong, unified, proud, and working toward a common goal.

Kaepernick by stating that he is going to buck that system to make a statement by stepping outside of those protocols just put himself OUTSIDE of the system. Now I don't know about you, but I believe if you're not an American and seek to change America, your opinion doesn't count...period. In kind, if you refuse to live by the standards and protocols of this nation, but demand change, once more your opinion does not count.

You might be an American citizen...Yet if being an American and all it entails doesn't apply to you, and you choose to not have to live by however it is changed for good or bad, then why should your opinion matter in that you have chosen to not live by it.

Show me a guy who has played by the rules, supports America in all the ways he is capable, and that is a person that has earned the right to buck that system and change it...If he had addressed the flag as is proper, showing respect for the nation made up as fellow citizens, and THEN made his protesting statements, well then as a participating citizen, we should all listen.

As it stands, whatever his beef, now it doesn't matter.

Yes, you have the right to make that choice as a free individual who is an American Citizen no matter how bold or pale you make that.....Sometimes however, like this instance, the choice you are really making is, do you want to be a part of this nation, or outside of it.

Yes, he has the right to not participate...However, that gives up the right to demand change.

As a P.S. to the above.

Something some have forgotten here is that we elect our leaders. Our leaders make laws, and we give them that authority to do so. If they do not do as we wish in that they are NOT above the common citizen, then YOU need to vote them out of office. We work off of a majority. No one and nothing will satisfy everyone, so we rely upon the citizenry, through their votes either for laws or politicians to determine that.

The rule is however, if something or someone is voted in, YOU must abide by it. You cannot pick and choose which laws you follow and then expect no consequences, nor can you turn around and say "I did not vote that person in, so they are not my leader."

We have a lot of presidential hoo-haa going on, be it Obama, Trump or Clinton. Like it or not currently, Obama IS your president, and soon we will see who our next president is.

If you claim "He/She is NOT my president," well then, you have made a very clear statement. That being, you are not an American, as whomever they may be, if they are the president of this country, then you are either a part of it, or not...and the second you are not, your opinion doesn't count.

There is a time and place and if Kaepernick would put his money where his mouth is that would be more productive than disrespecting this country.

If Shooter happened to be a member of the 49ers he would decline to participate in anything Kapernick was involved in.
Kapernick could go out there and play with himself.
If I happened to be on a team slated to play a team with Kapernick on it, I would make it a point to explain to him that while this country has many problems, the least of which is racism, to express disrespect for the very symbol of all that is good in this country is stupid. To express disrespect for the very country that he has benefited from is stupid.
Of course, I would get tossed from the game, and fined big time by the league and my team, but when Kapernick got out of the hospital and back out on the field, I'd explain it to him again.

    1. CFH3ll
He actually exercised his freedom not to participate. Why does that hurt your feelings? So what your saying is that everyone should be punished for not idolizing the flag? Are you the same person that would punish a kid for not standing for the pledge of allegiance?

      What?
Kapernick exercised his freedom not to participate. Good for him.
Shooter has that exact same right. You know, not to participate. To express his opinion.
Shooter, because we're talking Football here, can express his opinion to Kapernick in a way he best understands. Of course, doing so would entail accepting a penalty from the authorities. Shooter can do that.

And we're not talking about "idolizing" the flag, but you already know that. We're talking about disrespecting the most recognizable symbol of this country. You already know that as well.

And where the hell did "punish a kid" come from?
      Kapernick is not a kid.

Have you stopped beating your wife yet?

Nice work, if you can get it, but the retirement plan sucks.

There are countries where it is permitted to commit criminal assault on those who hold unpopular opinions, but this is not one of them. It is not possible to show respect for our country, while disrespecting the laws which guarantee the safety of our citizens.

If you wished to stay within the law, the most you could do is tell Kapernick, "This is the land of freedom. You can't do that."

      Brother;
Everyone getting all butt hurt over this mess.
      Allow me to clarify.
Shooter would decline to play with someone who disrespects the flag.
He realizes of course that one cannot kick someone's ass because of a disagreement over freedom of expression. He was having fun. Being pompous if you will.
      Apparently the humor was missed.
      Fine.
Shooter retracts his statement about "talking" to Kapernick.
Instead, Shooter would give Kapernick a mean look, you know, so he'd know Shooter was displeased with him.

It's easy for you all to criticize someone for not participating in something he doesn't believe in yet tell me I'm wrong for criticizing our government for religious ideology that in fact has absolutely no proof behind it not one bit... Now if there's anything that needs more criticism that should be at the top of the list

    1. shootersa
You came here to stir up shit and spout off your beliefs about religion.
That's fine, lots of people here do that.
Of course, the point of a blog is to offer up opinions and argue about shit.
      That's fine.
But, if you want to spout off, expect that someone is going to argue with you.
      Deal with it.

Fact of the matter is most of you here and alot of people in this country are extremely hurt to the core over an individual who decided not to stand for the national anthem. I'm almost willing to bet this is going to happen more frequently now. In almost every comment stating those who opposed his action recommended some type of violence and or penalty for his actions or lack there of. Now ask yourself how American that sounds? We are a violent country indeed I just never thought that someone's non physical action would cause so much physical reaction. It's sad and I really can't see how you could call yourselves men or woman? Sound more like rabbid dogs foaming at the mouth!!!

The flag is a symbol that represents the people. A country is nothing without people. Having pride in the flag is having pride in yourself, your family and everything that goes along with living in a country as great as the USA.

Here in this country, you are free to move to any part of the world and still come back when things don't work out.

Too many people take the freedoms and opportunities we have here for granted. My how different your life would be if you were born in the Middle East, Africa, South America or Asia...

Like the people in North Korea, you never hear them complain about anything, so it must be a great place to live....
